Parents and caregivers offer their children love, acceptance, appreciation, encouragement, and guidance. They provide the most intimate context for the nurturing and protection of children as they develop their personalities and identities and also as they mature physically, cognitively, emotionally, and socially
Did you know that more than 80% of children living in orphanages have families? Orphanages are places of last resort and have been shown to be bad for children’s development. Every child has a right to remain with his or her family as far as possible. Where it is not in the best interest of the child to be with his or her family, or where he or she has no one, children’s rights law and best practices provide that alternative family-based care must be established. We need to give all children what they need – a family! All children deserve to grow up in family homes rather than in residential care centres – sometimes referred to as’orphanages’.
Agro-ecology is not just a set of agricultural practices – it focuses on changing social relations, empowering farmers, adding value locally and privileging short value chains. It allows farmers to adapt to climate change, sustainably use and conserve natural resources and biodiversity.
Urban agriculture allows for the development of a variety of environmental, economic, and social benefits to the surrounding communities. Urban farming can reduce transportation costs, help reduce runoff associated with heavy rainfall, and lead to better air quality. In Murang’a why GEEP KENYA is locted the land sizes are small and this helps ensure the families have access to good, fresh foods grown in very small areas
